Benefits
Melons are some of the best foods
to consume when it is really hot out. They keep the body hydrated with all the water
content and also help decrease inflammation and diabetes risk.
How to Choose and Keep
The best
way to check if the cantaloupe is ripe is to make sure it feels heavier that
you think it should, as well is the top gives in gently. You can also smell the
bottom of the melon. If it has an aroma it is ripe. Make sure there is no mold
anywhere as well.
Preparation
Make
sure to wash your hands very well. Rinse the entire thing under cool water, and
even scrub with a brush to remove any bacteria from the skin. This is important
because when you cut the melon is it easy to have anything on the skin leak
into the edible area. Cut off the top and then scoop out the seeds. Then cut
off the rind and cut into pieces.
After
the melon is cut make sure to always keep cold. It can last in the fridge cut
for about 1 week. DO NOT ever leave cut cantaloupe at room temperature more
than 2 hours to avoid E. coli risk.
